The MGA Race to Makkah

Torrey Pines

La Jolla, California · September 25–28, 2026

This isn’t just another golf event. This is the Azzad Asset Management Race to Makkah at Torrey Pines, home to two of America’s most iconic golf courses, perched on the cliffs of La Jolla overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

And now, it’s your turn.

2 Iconic Courses

Golf. Faith. Legacy.

MGA World Championship

Muslim golfers belong on the world’s greatest stages. There is no greater stage than Torrey Pines, and for the first time, it’s yours.

The Race to Makkah

Torrey Pines, West Coast

Where Legends Are Made.
And Now, So Are You.

Two US Opens. Generations of the world's finest players. Torrey Pines is not a venue that asks for your respect. It commands it, from the first tee on the clifftops to the final green above the Pacific.

For one weekend, the MGA has made it yours.

Seventy competitors. The Lodge at Torrey Pines as your base, a AAA Five Diamond property where an exclusive halal kitchen has been created, the prayer space is ready, and the only people around you are Muslim golfers who came here to compete.

The course does not change. The experience has never existed before.

A place at the World Final in Saudi Arabia is at stake. This is where your race begins.

South. North. South.

Three Rounds. One Destination.

Everything on the Line.

Friday. Practice Day.
The South Course.

Learn It Today.
Own It On Sunday

Redesigned by Rees Jones ahead of the 2008 US Open, the South Course has never forgiven anyone since. The fairways open up in front of you, the Pacific fills every horizon, and the greens sit fast, firm, and fiercely protected behind rough that punishes anything short of precision.

Today, nothing is on the line. Walk it. Read it. Learn every edge, every wind, every green that will matter on Sunday.

Because you will be back, and on Sunday, with a place at the World Final in Saudi Arabia decided hole by hole across the entire field, this course will ask you everything it has.

Friday is your only chance to hear the questions before the exam begins.

Saturday. Round 1.
North Course
8:00am

But the weekend begins on the North. Day 1 of the Race to Makkah West Coast leg is played right here at Torrey Pines, on a course that has humbled more visitors than they'd care to admit.

The North may sit in the shadow of its famous neighbour, but step onto the first tee and that reputation disappears fast. The same coastal winds roll in off the Pacific. The same dramatic elevation shifts force you to think about every club in your bag. The same unforgiving, rough fairways that look generous until they're not. And the same views, those jaw-dropping, this-can't-be-real views — remind you that you are somewhere genuinely special.

The North Course rewards smart, disciplined golf. It rewards players who manage their game, read the conditions, and take what the course gives them rather than what they wish it would. 72 players will walk off the North Course on Day 1 knowing exactly where they stand.

Some will be chasing. Some will be defending. All of them will be carrying their score into one of the most iconic venues in the world. Because Day 2 waits for everyone, and it doesn't wait quietly.

Sunday. Final Round.
The South Course.
8:00am

You have already played it once. You know what it demands. Now you are back.

Scores have been posted. Expectations have been set. And armed with everything you learned on Friday, the slopes, the speeds, the wind patterns off the Pacific, the question is whether you can convert that knowledge into the round of your life.

Knowledge without execution means nothing. The South doesn't care how well you walked it on Friday. It only cares about today.

In partnership with the City of San Diego, the MGA has secured an exclusive modified shotgun start. Every competitor on the course at 8:00am. Every competitor finishing together. The leaderboard settling across the entire field in real time.

This is where your Race to Makkah is won or lost.

The Lodge.

A Stay Worthy of the Occasion

Over 70+ Muslim golfers. Together. At a AAA Five Diamond resort perched above the Pacific Ocean. Halal catering arranged exclusively for our group. A dedicated prayer space so that Salah is never an afterthought, never a compromise. Faith and excellence are fully accommodated at one of the most prestigious addresses in American sport.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines has held its Five Diamond distinction for 18 consecutive years. Rooms furnished with Craftsman hardwoods and leathers, marble and granite bathrooms, and the kind of unhurried, white-glove service that makes every hour feel intentional. This is not a hotel you pass through. It is a place you arrive at.

And for one weekend, it is entirely yours.

The World Final.
Jan 2027

Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, Saudi Arabia.

Once a year, the global Muslim golfing community converges on a single course. Qualifiers from the USA, UK, and South Africa. Players from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, across Africa, and beyond. One field. One championship. Three divisions.

The stage is Royal Greens Golf & Country Club on the edge of the Red Sea, a venue that has hosted the Saudi International and LIV Golf. At the inaugural World Final, three divisional champions were crowned. Three Muslim golfers stood on one of the world's great courses and made history.

The second edition has not yet found its champions. Qualifiers from the USA East and West Coast compete for their place alongside 80+ players from across the world. Every place is open. They will not last.

One Sport.
Three Nations.
One Direction.

The Race to Makkah isn't a local competition. It never was.

South Africa has competed. The United Kingdom is competing. This December, for the second time, the United States joins them.

The Race to Makkah is one unified platform connecting Muslim golfers across three countries, three continents, and three handicap divisions. For the low handicapper, the mid, and the player who refuses to let a handicap index define their ambition.

Every division has a champion. Every champion earns the same prize. Every champion stands on the same stage in Saudi Arabia.

That's the point.

This isn't about handicap. It's about belonging. It's for the Muslim golfer who plays every weekend, who learned the game late, who never imagined that his love of golf could take him to the Red Sea coast to compete on a world stage.

At Torrey Pines, the competition is real, but the bigger picture is wider still. You are not just playing for a trophy in California. You are part of something being built simultaneously across three countries. It has already crowned its first champions. It is only just getting started.

South Africa played their part. The UK is playing theirs.

Now it's America's turn.

USA West Coast Qualifier at Torrey Pines

This two-day cumulative Stableford competition is set to be a defining moment in the MGA journey and a historic milestone for Muslim golf in the United States.

The format is straightforward. Two rounds. Cumulative Stableford scoring across both days. Three handicap divisions ensure every competitor plays within a fair and competitive field.

Tournament Format

  • Two-day cumulative Stableford competition

  • Three handicap divisions to ensure fair and competitive play:

    • Division 1: 0 – 8.4

    • Division 2: 8.5 – 14.4

    • Division 3: 14.5 – 21

All competitors must hold an active GHIN handicap to be eligible. Players with a handicap index above 21 will compete off a playing handicap of 21. Every division crowns a champion. Every champion earns a place at the World Final in Saudi Arabia.

Don’t have a handicap?
No problem. Players without a recognised handicap are welcome to participate and will be placed in a dedicated Social Division. Social Division players will not be eligible for the World Final, but will enjoy the full tournament experience, hospitality, and the unique spirit of the MGA community.

The Lodge

11480 North Torrey Pines Road | La Jolla, California

There are fine resorts. And there are resorts that understand the difference between accommodation and experience. The Lodge at Torrey Pines, AAA Five Diamond for 18 consecutive years, is emphatically the latter.

Perched above the cliffs of La Jolla with the Pacific stretching out beyond the course, it is one of the most celebrated addresses in American golf. This is where you sleep, recover, and prepare.

Inspired by the Arts and Crafts heritage of California's architectural tradition, every room is a sanctuary of warmth and quiet luxury. Spanning from 500 to over 1,500 square feet, your accommodation offers sweeping views of the iconic South Course or the resort's tranquil botanical courtyard. Egyptian cotton linens and authentic down bedding. Stickley furnishings and leather details. Marble and granite bathrooms with oversized soaking tubs. Nespresso on arrival, 24 hour room service, and full access to the spa sauna and steam room.

This is not a hotel you pass through. It is a place you arrive at.

What the MGA has arranged inside it is something rarer still. An exclusive halal kitchen created for our group. A dedicated prayer space so that Salah is never an afterthought, never a compromise, never something you negotiate around a hotel's schedule. Over 70 Muslim golfers together under one roof, at one of the finest resorts in the United States, with every detail of their faith considered and accommodated.

This level of access, curated specifically for Muslim guests at a property of this standing, does not happen by accident. The MGA has made it possible.

What’s Included:

  • Bedrooms

Every room at The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a sanctuary built for rest and recovery. Spanning from 500 to over 1,500 square feet, each suite is furnished with Stickley hardwoods, leather details, and Egyptian cotton linens with authentic down bedding. Marble and granite bathrooms with oversized soaking tubs. Views across the South Course or the resort's botanical courtyard. This is where you return after the round, and where you prepare for the next one.

  • Halal Dining

For MGA guests, dining at The Lodge takes on an entirely different dimension. The resort's culinary team will prepare an exclusive halal menu crafted fresh each day from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Every meal is prepared to halal standards, served privately for our group, at one of the finest five-diamond properties in the United States. This level of provision, at a resort of this standing, does not happen without intention. The MGA has made it happen.

  • Spa & Fitness

Perched above the Pacific and steps from the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, The Lodge spa is one of the finest recovery facilities in Southern California. MGA guests have full access to 14 private treatment rooms, herbal-infused steam rooms, saunas, aromatherapy inhalation rooms, and relaxation suites. Between rounds, there is no better place to reset.

  • Tournament Golf

To play Torrey Pines is to stand where the greatest names in the game have stood. The South Course has hosted two US Opens. The North delivers the same coastal conditions, the same unforgiving rough, the same jaw-dropping Pacific backdrop. Through the MGA, Muslim golfers now have the opportunity to compete across both layouts across a single weekend, steps from their suite, on one of the most celebrated stages in world golf.

  • Brotherhood

There is something about golf that brings men together in a way few pursuits can. At Torrey Pines, that experience becomes something rarer still. Over 70 Muslim golfers, together under one roof, sharing the early morning rounds, the meals, the missed putts, and the moments that stay with you long after the scores are forgotten. Your faith and your game, in the same place, at the same time, with people who understand both. What happens at Torrey Pines does not stay at Torrey Pines. It travels with you.

  • Prizes

At the heart of the Race to Makkah is a prize unlike anything else in Muslim golf. The champion of each division wins an all-expenses-paid place at the World Final in January 2027, held at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Saudi Arabia. And beyond the golf itself, champions will have the opportunity to perform Umrah, making this not simply the trip of a lifetime, but something far more profound. Divisional runners-up will also be recognised, and a nearest-the-pin competition runs across every day of play ensuring every competitor has something to chase from the first tee shot to the last.

FAQs

  • Not at all, everyone is welcome.

The Muslim Golf Association brings people together through golf, community and shared values. While our events are rooted in a Muslim environment, we warmly welcome anyone who is happy to be part of that experience.

We simply ask that all guests respect the setting we create, including no alcohol, no gambling, and being mindful of dedicated spaces for prayer.

Many of our events bring together people from different backgrounds, and that’s part of what makes the experience so special.

  • This depends on your chosen package.

Grand Experience (3 nights): Three rounds in total — a practice round on Friday on the South Course, Championship Round 1 on Saturday on the North Course, and Championship Round 2 on Sunday back on the South Course. Arrive Thursday.

Classic Experience (2 nights): Two rounds — Championship Round 1 on Saturday on the North Course, and Championship Round 2 on Sunday on the South Course. Arrive Friday.

    The full course schedule is:

Friday: Practice round — Torrey Pines South Course (Grand Experience only)

Saturday: Championship Round 1 — Torrey Pines North Course

Sunday: Championship Round 2 — Torrey Pines South Course

  • The Race to Makkah at Torrey Pines consists of three days of golf, one optional practice round and two championship rounds.

Practice Round (Friday): Torrey Pines South Course — walk the course, read the greens, and prepare for championship play. Grand Experience only. Tee times are organised by player preference.

Championship Round 1 (Saturday): Torrey Pines North Course. Tee times are organised by division so you compete against players of similar ability.

Championship Round 2 (Sunday): Torrey Pines South Course. The final round brings all players together for a dramatic finish on one of the most famous courses in the world.

Each round includes full access to the practice range (balls provided) and Torrey Pines’ world-class short game facilities.

  • All MGA tournaments use the Stableford scoring system, a format designed to keep the game fast, competitive, and enjoyable for players of all abilities.

Rather than counting total strokes, Stableford awards points based on how you play each individual hole. A bad hole won't derail your entire round, you simply pick up and move on.

    Points per hole:

    • Net Eagle: 4 points

    • Net Birdie: 3 points

    • Net Par: 2 points

    • Net Bogey: 1 point

    • Net Double bogey or worse: 0 points

Your handicap is applied, so all divisions compete on a level playing field. Stableford is the standard scoring format used across all MGA host countries, ensuring a fair and consistent experience worldwide.

For a full explanation, visit the USGA – Rule 21.1: Stableford.

  • To be eligible for divisional prizes, players must hold a registered GHIN handicap with a minimum of three scorecards submitted before the tournament begins.

Players without a registered handicap are still very welcome — they'll compete in the MGA Social Division, which runs alongside the main competition with its own separate prizes.

    Handicap divisions:

    • Division 1: 0 – 8.4

    • Division 2: 8.5 – 14.4

    • Division 3: 14.5 – 21

All handicaps are capped at a maximum index of 21, in line with the universal MGA division structure used across all host countries.

  • The winner of each handicap division will receive an all-expenses-paid place at the MGA World Final, taking place in Saudi Arabia in January 2027. There, they'll represent the USA and compete alongside Muslim golfers from across the world, including qualifiers from the UK and South Africa.

Prizes will also be awarded to runners-up in each division, along with a nearest-the-pin prize on every day of competition.
